#HotMail: Tee Grizzley Reveals New Details About Drive-By Shooting That Killed Aunt

Written by on December 6, 2019

Tee Grizzley says he was the target of the drive-by shooting that took the life of his aunt and manager Jobina ‘JB’ Brown.

During a recent interview with 97.9 WJLB’s Bigg Dawg Blast, the 25-year-old opened up about the August shooting, sharing the events that led up to what has become one of the worst days of his life.

“I [went] over to my older cousin house [..] and I [told JB], ‘Come in the house.’ And she was like, ‘Nah, I don’t want to come in,'” he recalled. “I begged her to come in the house [because] certain areas you just have to move right […] So I’m telling her to come in the house, but she’s like ‘Nah,” because [she] was funny about dirty houses… she was a real clean person.”

Tee went on to explain that he left JB in the car to go visit his cousin. However, his family took a while to open the door. “They finally come to the door [but then…] I heard a whole bunch of shots going off behind me. So I get down because I’m thinking […] they’re about to start shooting at me and I didn’t have any [weapons] on me at the time. Then my cousin ran out with a gun. Then we ran out on the street and my driver was gone. There were no cars out there.”

The “Satish” rapper continued, “I didn’t even know what was going on at this point. I don’t see any glass on the street so I’m like, oh [my aunt and driver are] straight. I didn’t even think this had anything to do with us. So now I’m mad [at my driver and aunt] like y’all heard those shots, why would y’all leave me over here? But my driver ended up calling me and [telling me what happened].”

“So basically [the gunmen] walked up to my [car] door and opened it, trying to get at me and ended up hitting [my aunt] up,” Tee explained. “She died at the hospital […] She called me before […] but she couldn’t form words […] they hit her eight times.” He added that he still doesn’t know why they chose to shoot his aunt, but he admitted that he feels to blame because it “should have been” him.

While Tee noted that JB was his aunt through marriage, he explained that they were extremely close. “I’ve been around her since I was 11/12. It was like she was my real auntie,” he shared before explaining that it was JB who funded his early career. “When I first came home [from jail], I asked a lot of people in my family for a chance, because this was really was I was trying to do. I asked, ‘Can y’all help me buy a beat. I really wanna rap.’ [But] a lot of them was not taking me seriously… She believed in me. She was the only one.”

He continued, “That ‘First Day Out’ video she paid for the video, bought the outfit I had on in the video, everything. We’ve been rocking ever since.”

“She quit her job to start managing me,” he added. “She was the only one I could trust for real.” Credit 97.9 WJLB’s Bigg Dawg Blast, for video
